Quincy jokes that he first became interested in lighting design at age 4, when his first pair of glasses made him aware of how differently light appears with and without lenses.
Before entering the lighting industry, Quincy obtained his B.S. in Architectural Studies and intended to pursue an architectural career. In his last year of undergraduate studies, he developed an interest in lighting design while in a design studio. He continued his studies at Parsons School of Design, where he obtained a Master’s in Lighting Design and Architecture.
Quincy began gaining professional lighting experience early in his studies. His interest in sustainability strengthened while working as a researcher for The Healthy Materials Lab, and working in the materials library of highly ranked architecture firm Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill.
Quincy joins HLS with project experience across many market sectors. His design interests are led by one overarching question: “How can I take the technical knowledge of design and the cultural and social connections of life to assist in designing desirable spaces?”
Engaging in various fine arts including dance, music, and multimedia, further influence his professional practice. Above all, he is driven by the goal of raising awareness and increasing access to the design profession among underrepresented communities—specifically youth of color. He brings this passion to minority focused organizations (currently serving as President of Black United In Lighting & Design), in curated exhibits, and through various forms of activism.
