Quincy likes to joke that he first became interested in lighting design at age 4. Joking, but somewhat true, Quincy became aware of the difference light plays a role in life due to receiving his first pair of glasses at age 4. “I’ve been wearing glasses since then and was always interested in how I saw light differently with my glasses on versus off. I never expanded on this fascination growing up and didn’t [at first] attribute it to having an interest in design.”
Before entering the lighting industry, Quincy obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Studies and then pursued an architectural career following graduation. However, it was in his last year of undergraduate studies in a design studio where he became aware of his interest in lighting design. That design studio led by designer, Kyle Talbott, titled: “Lighten Up”, focused on first intimately understanding the effects of light and materials to create a system that informs how to design the space.
Quincy’s passion within design lies with awareness and outreach of the design profession to communities of color—and specifically youth of color. This passion is exhibited by participating in minority focused organizations, entering/curating exhibits, and various forms of activism. He is currently the President Elect for BUILD (Black Unity In Lighting & Design).
