The International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) is pleased to welcome Rosemarie Allaire, FIALD, CLD, and Andrea Hartranft, FIALD, to the IALD College of Fellows, bringing the number of Fellows to 47. The IALD Fellow designation is awarded to members of the IALD for valuable contribution to the art and science of lighting design, as well as for their continued service to the IALD. Allaire and Hartranft were formally inducted at the IALD Enlighten Americas 2019 conference in Albuquerque, NM USA. “It is a tremendous thrill and honor to become a fellow in the association that I joined as a student member over 3 decades ago,” said Allaire, FIALD. “I am proud to be recognized with this induction and to be included in the IALD College of Fellows, which includes the legendary Lesley Wheel, FIALD who illuminated the path for women in lighting.” Hartranft, FIALD added, “To be included among this esteemed group is such an honor. To be recognized for contributions to this incredible profession is icing on a truly wonderful cake.” ![]() ROSEMARIE ALLAIRE, FIALD, CLD ROSEMARIE ALLAIRE LIGHTING DESIGN DANA POINT, CA USA Rosemarie Allaire, FIALD, CLD, began her studies in interior design and dance where the fusion of architectural and theatrical lighting sparked her interest. As an award-winning lighting designer, Allaire has worked with prominent architectural lighting design firms throughout the United States before establishing her Dana Point, CA architectural lighting design practice in 2002. Allaire has designed lighting for a wide range of projects, which vary in size and complexity, including interior and exterior lighting and controls design, as well as custom luminaire design. Her project experience includes high-end residential, car dealerships, gyms, hospitality, landscapes, medical spas, offices, parking, restaurants and retail stores. As a Certified Lighting Designer (CLD), Allaire has devoted her career balancing the creative art and technical science of lighting design. She understands the role of illumination planning in the built environment and captures beauty of the space. Allaire is also an active volunteer in the lighting profession with nearly 20 year’s volunteer experience with IALD, the International Engineering Society of North America (IESNA), the CLD and other organizations. Allaire's leadership roles with the IALD have included membership on the IALD Credential Task Force, membership on the IALD Globalization Structure Committee, and a five year tenure as the chair of the IALD International Lighting Design Awards. Her most recent role with IALD includes vice-chair of the CLD Commission, and chair of the IALD Education Trust Fundraising Committee, where her contributions have helped with the advancement of the lighting design profession. ![]() ANDREA HARTRANFT, FIALD HARTRANFT LIGHTING DESIGN, LLC CHARLOTTE, NC USA Andrea Hartranft, FIALD, principal of her own firm, has over 33 years of experience on more than 1,000 commercial, institutional and industrial projects, including high-end public spaces, energy-efficient workplaces (LEED and Green Globes accreditations) and cost-driven renovations. Her projects have received international lighting design awards from the IALD and the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), as well as AIA awards at the regional and national level. Her architectural lighting portfolio includes projects for offices, retail, hospitality, airports, museums, sport facilities, hospital, theater, as well as residential, educational, religious and municipal projects. Hartranft’s background is in architectural engineering, lighting and lighting psychology from The Pennsylvania State University. She decided to specialize in lighting design after studying the psychological and physiological effects of light on people and how lighting design represents the intersection of art and science. Her passion, talent and determination has led to the success of her business she started in 2013, where she has developed a successful program of mentorship for her staff. Hartranft is known to share her knowledge and experience with her associates to expand their skill sets and create fresh, unique and technically competent design solutions on their projects.
