"60 Minutes" features robots and tech functions in new space.

​This world leader in mobile robots outgrew their existing facility and sought new space to accommodate their fast-growing staff. The design team’s challenge: transform a 200,000+ square foot former USPS sorting facility from a raw, exposed concrete void into a world-class research and development facility with a hospitality-like feel.

​Hartranft Lighting Design teamed with Bergmeyer to create a workspace that connected everyone in the building to the creative process while supporting wellness, flexibility and durability. HLD project manager Paula Ziegenbein's lighting design applied Bergmeyer's expertise in using design to tell stories while capturing Boston Dynamics open, innovative and dynamic culture..

On-site interviews conducted initially revealed lighting to be an engineering pain point, woefully inadequate for varied visual needs including: computer design and programming, machine and electronics prototyping, product testing, human visual needs and comfort, and compatibility with high-speed/high-definition cameras filming moving robots with camera vision – creating an additional challenge.

​The design solution addressed complex R&D needs of the field’s brightest engineers and scientists and supported the rapidly growing company’s needs for ergonomic, flexible office space, engaging gathering spaces and quiet relaxation areas.
